The best way to prevent tooth decay is with a proper oral hygiene routine including twice daily brushing and flossing, as well as biannual visits to our office for teeth cleanings. Despite your best efforts, during your regularly scheduled examinations, tooth decay may still be detected. Kansas City dentist Dr. Thomas Barton offers the latest, safest, and most aesthetically pleasing methods for treating tooth decay.
We offer white, composite fillings at our dental office. White fillings offer several benefits over metal amalgam fillings. Some of the advantages include:
- White fillings are much more aesthetically pleasing
- White fillings will not expand and contrast with temperature fluctuations in your mouth
- White fillings require less of your natural tooth be removed for placement
- White fillings are bonded to your teeth, making them more secure and minimizing the risk of cracking or breaking your tooth
Due to the superiority of white fillings, Dr. Barton does not offer metal fillings as an alternative. He can, upon your request, remove your old metal fillings and replace them with composite fillings.
Porcelain Inlays and Onlays
In addition to white fillings, Dr. Barton offers porcelain inlays and onlays to treat tooth decay. When your tooth decay is extensive enough that your tooth has become fractured, a composite filling may compromise its structural integrity. Like composite fillings, the inlays and onlays we offer are white, and therefore more aesthetically pleasing than metal alternatives.
Porcelain inlays and onlays are placed over two office visits. During your fist visit, an impression will be made of your tooth and a temporary inlay or onlay will be placed. During your second visit, your customized inlay or onlay, created by one of our dental lab partners, will be placed. This inlay or onlay will be precisely detailed to match your teeth’s unique grooves, as well as to match adjacent teeth in color.
Depending on the extent of damage, Dr. Barton will determine which option will best suit your needs.
